I think a lot of people have misconceptions of the weather here in Alaska. I know I did til I was in 8th grade. I had a teacher that lived here for a short while, and he let us know that is wasn't snowy all the time here. Which is, of course, what I had always thought. I think some people still do, probably kids, mostly. Yes, it does snow here and there is a lot of it. I will surely experience that soon enough. (We already have the girl's snow suits).
What I have learned about the weather here is it is unpredictable. Last summer, it rained all the time and didn't get out of the 70's, at least this is what we were told by everyone. This summer has been wonderful! There have been mostly sunny days and when the sun is out...it is hot! It is almost like we are closer to the sun, and we may be. The sun rays are brighter, so sun glasses are a must. But just as nice as the sun is, the very next second clouds come in and it rains for weeks. It started raining awhile back and it rained for about a week straight before stopping every now and then. Well, we have been told by so many people that the nice weather is coming to an end and snow is coming in a few weeks. I would have believed it, because of the rain and the wearing of jackets. But the rain has stopped and now it is back up in the 60's and we are wearing shorts and t-shirts. Where is the rain? Trust me, I am not complaining. I love the sun and love being outside. But if the summer this year has been so different than last, maybe the rain and snow will hold off a little while longer. Because we do have a long winter, it would just be nice to have a little longer summer.
