Underestimating My Child...Never Again

Last Sunday, I became aware that my oldest was learning a verse for Sunday School. I asked what the verse was and it was Acts 2:44-47. My first thought was that that is way too much for my child to memorize! I mean she is only 5 and can barely read. I was a little taken aback by how much they expected my child to learn in a week (I didn't realize at the time that they were memorizing one verse at a time). So, we set out to learn the verse. My plan was for her to learn one verse a day. That worked fine for the first 2, but the last 2 took a little work. By yesterday, she had 3 of the 4 down pat with little prompting. On the way to church, we briefly went over the last one. I was amazed that she got it! All of it!
Why did I underestimate her so much? I don't know why. I just figured she is 5 and even I can't do that. Well, that is not true! I can and she can. I am very proud of her.

I will right the verse from my memory...() mark Ella's version

"All the believers were together, they had everything in common. Selling their possession (permissions) and goods, they gave to anyone as (long as) he had need. Everyday they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere (sinceren) hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved."

We are going to keep going over these verses, so she gets them. I do think it is important to hide God's word in your heart. This will now become part of our lives. And you know what? Olivia, who is 3, has memorized a good bit of the passage too!

I think my lesson has been learned.
