Day Trippin' to Whittier

Whittier, AK is one of my favorite places I have been to so far (I haven't been many places in AK yet).  It is what you think of when you picture Alaska in your head.  To get there, you go south and then through a 2 mile tunnel.  It is a fishing town.  Boats are everywhere.  And it closes down pretty much all winter.
We have family in town, so we decided a picnic out at Whittier would be nice.  We also planned on stopping at the Conservation Center.  Driving down makes for a beautiful drive.
I have lived in Alaska long enough to know you MUST be prepared for any weather.  Normally in the spring, we are ok in a light jacket going around town in Anchorage.  But once you drive through the tunnel, you don't really know what type of weather you will get.  Layers is the way to go.  I unpacked the girl's coats and stuck them on top of our gear in the back.
I am thankful I did!  It was about 20 degrees colder, raining, and just plan COLD!
We found a covered spot (near JT's favorite fishing spot).  And we ate lunch while jumping around to stay warm.  Even though the weather conditions were less than stellar, it was still beautiful.

Sutton Grace doesn't complain much about the weather, you can tell she was born here.

Through the trees, you are supposed to see mountains.  And the tide was in, so there wasn't much else to see.  I wish it wasn't raing as much as it was, so I could get my camera out and so you the rest of the beauty around.

Poor Olivia...this was a forced smile.  Where is Ella?  In the car.  You can tell they were born in the south.
Notice the snow still on the ground...it was that cold.
