I have been homesick a lot lately...homesick for where I grew up, my family and my friends.
It is hard at times, especially having a newborn, to be so far away from family. Alaska is so different from the south, and I just want a taste of life as I knew it growing up...to show my kids what I did.
But we live here, and we will be making a trip back home soon enough...
So, when I am feeling homesick, the best cure for me is to get out and enjoy outdoor Alaska. I LOVE to be outside and explore new places. Today, we went to a park in south Anchorage...Kincaid Park. It has the largest population of moose in Anchorage...we didn't see any...THANK GOODNESS! I never want to run into one on foot especially with my children with me. We loaded up the girl's bikes and the baby stroller and headed out on a trail.
A trail that was short and dead ended in an overlook.
That is the bay (behind my goofball of a husband, who I love and adore). When you fly into Anchorage, that is what you fly over...the bay...not my goofball.
Sutton Grace was NOT happy about being stuck, as she puts it, in her stroller. And yes, I can understand what she says even with her "pa pa" in her mouth. I speak fluent Sutton.
We found another trail that was down hill, so we put up the bikes and headed down.
Someone made her own trail...since we let her walk, we had to constantly keep her on track. She is VERY stubborn, and it was a little hard to keep her with us.
So...she ended up on my shoulders...which she wasn't happy about.
We turned around and went back towards the car. My wonderful dream of taking a nice family hike through a park was shattered, by "I'm hungry", "There are bugs", "I am tired", etc...
I will tell you, I was sweating carrying a toddler on my shoulders and a baby in my wrap up the hill.
And I might add...I can walk, hike, run anywhere in flip flops.
Even though there was a lot of complaining...I had fun...and for now, I am not as homesick.
