(I know I promised this yesterday, but we had an unexpected family day out, and I will take those days over blogging any day!)
This school year, I have added a craft/art/project day that will be every Friday. It doesn't have anything to do with what we are learning...it is just a chance for the girls to have fun.
And I will do my best to share it with you all too. I get my inspiration from all over the Internet and I will link where I get those projects. I am not too creative to come up with my own most of the time, but I do like to be creative.
So, this past week, we made Edible Finger Paint.
I followed this recipe.
When is calls for stirring, it takes awhile...so I got the girls to help while I cleaned.
Oh, and I kept my heat on medium.
It is ready when it looks like this...like wax that is in the process of melting.
To speed up the cooling process, I took the pot outside. You can do this when you live in Alaska :)
What do you do while waiting for it to cool?
Feed the dog.
And then EVIL LAUGH because you know you aren't suppose to and hope by laughing it makes it all ok. In this case, it did. I was laughing too...so you get a blurry picture.
It was too rainy that day to do what I wanted to do with the paint, so we waited for a few days. The weatherman promised us sun later in the week (which isn't saying much).
To get the amount of paint I did, I followed the recipe but x4. You can do the same for however many colors you want.
Now...Paint and get messy!
Why edible paint? Well....
Let's go paint balling...scoop a big glob out of the jars...
And throw!
It is finished! They had a blast!
Ok...not finished!
(Yes, we are all really that white...Alaskan white...we can tan, but we don't get the chance up here.)
Sticky, messy, gooey hands! She was not happy.
So, I told her to get over it and have fun. Mean mom...I know.
So...we chase our sister.
And she chases back.
A truce called...or "uncle"...
They had fun, and I did too. It is sooooo messy. If you do this with your kids, expect paint to get a few places. I got them in the shower to clean them. I couldn't hose them off...we have arctic cold water coming out our water hoses.
*tip: if you want to save your paints and use them again, you can. Just stir well when you open the jar and add a little water to it, if you need to.

:) This is awesome. You can tell they had a blast and to think they helped make it too! Best thing a little girl could ask for. Way to go Mama!
