You hear people say "I got the Parent of the Year Award today!" and then it is followed by a horrible story of something that happened that should not have happened.
Well, that was me this weekend.
Lessons I learned:
1. ALWAYS be aware of your 2 year old. (Even if you are just washing your face.)
2. 2 year olds climb.
3. Make sure everything that could remotely be dangerous is under lock a key.
4. Child safety caps are NOT child proof.
It was horrific!
I should have known better!
The nurse told me I would punish myself more than anyone else could.
I did, and I am still doing it.
She was a trooper through it all.
The doctors and nurses and the Pediatric ICU were wonderful! I can't say enough nice things about them.
I know every parent has a story of why they received the Parent of the Year Award.
I just wish I hadn't gotten mine.
And a big thanks to my husband who got her to the ER and stayed with her for the worst of it.
And a big thanks to the police man that let my husband keep driving even though he was going over the speed limit.
And another big thanks goes to my friend Katie, who watched Ella and Olivia for us...even though I was suppose to watch her kids.
My heart still races and panic ensues as I think about it...I am thankful for God's grace and mercy and protection!
Blurry pic with a crappy camera phone :(
To lighten this up a bit, I will tell you the one ER trip that if JT and I checked everything out, we would not have had to go....
Olivia was about Sutton's age now. The kids were playing outside (we lived in Savannah, Ga at the time). Olivia was running down a very, very small hill. She tripped and fell. Later on JT and I noticed that she was limping. She didn't complain about it, she just walked with a limp. At that time, she didn't talk much, and she really never cried about anything. So, we took her to the ER.
The doctor checked her out and determined that she must have just pulled something, because everything looked ok. She walked fine while she was there.
We got home and she limped inside.
I took her shoes off and then her socks off. When I grabbed the socks, something stung me. It was one of those prickly things that stick to you! Yeah...so...we felt very stupid, and we are very happy we didn't find that out at the ER in front of the doctor.

okay. i don't know what happened. but i am so VERY glad she is okay. i see the pink cast/bandage on her arm. i hope it wasn't to bad. don't be too hard on your self. just remember at this very same time last year, Conner, fish hooked himself with a wire hanger (probably as old as i am) and tried to take his own tonsils out. you are the best mommy i know!!!
She got into some medicine, the pink bandage was to keep her IV in. She kept wanting to pull it out.
