Arctic Storm 2012 (and probably will never happen again)

On Tuesday, we got warning of high winds.  I paid no mind to them.  We will get warning every now and then, but it hits more south Anchorage and the hillside than it does the base.  I did take down our flag, we didn't want it to go flying and hit a car or something.

The winds picked up around bedtime...and then there goes the electricity.  We struggled to find flashlight and batteries.  Thank goodness we had the flashlight app on our phones and that they are almost always near us!

Ella woke and got to watch the storm with us.  During the night time chaos, we got to know our neighbors a bit more....bandaged wounds of one neighbor....watched things go flying through the air...feel our house move (and not from an earthquake)...realize how quite everything is (except the wind) when the electricity is out and how incredibly dark dark is...we saw lightening.

Storms like this never happen here in this part of Alaska!
Sure we get wind and rain...but never winds that reach 100mph or lightening for that matter!
Apparently, it was a storm from the Bering Sea that hit mainland Alaska.

We were pretty much in awe watching it.

We went to bed.
The girls all in the bed with me.
JT downstairs on the couch just in case something else happened that needed our immediate attention.

So, in the early morning hours with the electricity still out, my littlest awoke.
With oatmeal cookie in hand (you do what you can when you can't cook...and it has oatmeal in it), Campbell noticed something was missing from our yard!

Do you see what is missing?
(Notice what stayed in place and didn't move due to 100mph winds)

The trampoline is gone!

This is the way it looked in the morning....

JT and I watched it take flight over our shed and bounce over our neighbor's fences.
Some of our neighbors grabbed it from the street and tied it to the tree.  The net was useless, but the bottom was still intact....then 30 minutes later...the tree fell and no more trampoline. :(

Ours wasn't the only one that got damaged.  Many went flying through in front of our house and behind our house.

One bounced through and hit several cars...including mine!

On the bright side, it will be easier to take down the trampoline before snow fall.

And our shed was damaged and no longer works properly, so that will be taken down this weekend...unless another storm wants to come through and do it for us... :)  JUST KIDDING!!!!

Campbell's faces are priceless! You seriously need to enter those pics and the story into some kind of contest or something. Sorry you guys lost the trampoline and had damage to your car, but I'm so glad that non of you were injured and that no one around you was seriously injured.
