Recently, my mom came to visit. It has been far too long since we have seen each other. Just over 2 years to be exact! Think that is long, I haven't seen one of my brothers in almost 6...very sad (both families have been military). Anyways, Mom made it up here. To say we were excited was an understatement. Campbell had just started opening up to strangers, so I had some pretty high hopes that she would bond with Toto (my mom) pretty quickly. And I was right. God had his hand in that for sure. She hated people up until about a week before my mom came.
The last time my mom was here, she was here to help since I had just had Sutton. We were really unable to take her to many places. But this time we were able to venture out a bit more.
We had a very late snow fall, so while my mom was here, she got to see Alaska in an "ugly" time of year. Everything was pretty brown. I expected it to be cloudy most of the time...which is normal, but one day there wasn't a cloud in the sky. So, we headed up to Talkeetna so Mom could see Mt. McKinley or Denali as Alaskans refer to it.
It was "warm" that day (30 degrees). It was a nice day to explore this little town that takes all of 5 minutes to walk around.
We ate lunch at the Denali Brewing Company. It is hands down my favorite place to eat in Alaska so far. I did not get a picture of it, instead I got a picture of the Roadhouse...which is pretty famous in these parts. It made it's way to the Food Network.
After we stuffed our bellies, we made our way to the river to let the kids burn off some energy before making our way back home.
See how clearly you can see the mountains? You can actually see this mountain from the airport in Anchorage on a clear day.
(Sorry for the dirty lens images.)
These two loved the sand...it is the sandiest beach they have ever been to.
Eagles are never boring to watch soaring across the sky. My kids have gotten great at spotting them.
While there was no snow, the puddles had a thin layer of ice that this one loved jumping on.
See me in my sexy man's sunglasses? I was there too.
More later with a different view of the mountains...
