Great Expectations

We went to the store today to get some crafting supplies. I kept telling the girls that they were not going to get anything this time. We had a list and we were sticking to it. Olivia pointed out a stand of books, she loves books. I said no without looking at them. We were sticking to the list. Then Ella saw the books. As I looked down, I noticed they were the classics written for children in small chapters. And they were cheap. I told them to pick out one. Olivia picked out Robinson Crusoe. I thought, "Awesome, I haven't read that one!". Ella looked through all of them and picked out Great Expectations. I thought to myself, "Really? The one book I hated reading in high school. It was so boring."
We started reading it this afternoon and she loves it. I have to admit, with it rewritten at more of a child's level, it is not so bad. What does that say about my level of intelligence? Um...let's not go there.
Never in my life did I think I would be reading this book to my child, but I am.

Jason had the whole series of those books, I think. Or at least the ones that appealed to him. :) I think that is a great idea!
I was at Borders last night and they have special "read aloud" versions of children's classics like Stuart Little and Ramona Quimby. They are large print and hardback. It made me wish I was close enough to read to the girls on a regular basis!
