Chasing Fireflies

Remember those hot summer nights running through the yard with a mason jar catching fire flies? I do. It was my favorite part of summer. My brothers and I would set the jar filled with those lightening bugs next to our beds at night watching them glow.
My oldest daughter is in awe of most bugs. She has been asking since we got here to catch lightening bugs. I told her they weren't out yet. Tonight, my parents and I were sitting in the living room after the kids had all gone to bed and I saw a bug flying around. I just thought it was a moth, but when it lit up, I did too. I was tempted to wake up Ella to show her the bug, but I didn't. Then we saw another. 2 of them! I cooked some green beans tonight that my mom had canned. I grabbed the jar and went chasing the bugs around the house. I got one, but the other got away from me. Later on, I caught him too.
I am so excited to show the girls tomorrow. The plan is to wait til it is dark and release them back into nature and let the girls see them light up. Who knew bugs could bring such joy to me...I mean my girls?
