Arctic Thunder

This past weekend, we had an airshow on base. We got a small taste of it on Friday when we got to watch the Blue Angels practice from my bedroom window. Ella, Olivia and I stared out my window with our heads in our hands up at the sky and watched in childhood wonder. The little preview got us pumped for the next day.
We got up and went. I figured we could get there right as the gates were opening and stay til lunch and come home for naps. After standing in a line that was a mile long...in all seriousness, a mile long...I knew this would be an all day event. It didn't help that Ella complained the whole time while in line. I was trying to keep our spirits up, while in my head completely agreeing with her.
The air show is open to the public and free, so that means everyone came. I read one source that said it is the single largest 2 day event in Alaska. I didn't expect much from it, but man I had a blast! The girls did too. It would be easy for me to get uptight and worry and complain about everything, but what good is that? It does no one any good. So, I let loose and once I settled into the fact that we would be there all day, I was fine. The kid in me came out.
I even got to eat some Memphis BBQ!!! Being from there, I was so excited! There was nothing "Memphis" about it, but is was still good.
Here are a few pictures from the day.
This one describes the girls so accurately! Ella posing, trying to be the center of attention. Olivia being shy, she is a quiet child most all the time. Sutton Grace preoccupied with her goldfish, she will do what she wants when she wants.

Olivia in a really old airplane. It looks as though she is posing to be cute, but in reality, she was smiling at me for the picture but got distracted by the pilot and I got a gorgeous shot!!

Ella sitting in the plane...sorry this one is blurry.

The favorite of the day for the girls was watching the EOD guys play with their robots. This one picked up a sippy cup to hand back to a little girl.

Canada's Silver Wings...I may have that wrong. I guess I should check on that one. But they were awesome!

The air show had a bit of everything there. One of the many attractions were the Japanese drummers, who were cool to watch. Olivia loved them! We were standing in line for crazy hair and she heard them. She said, "Mommy, you hear that boom boom noise? I liked that!"

We stopped for a little break around 3pm and ate a snack. And speaking of crazy hair, take a look at the girls.

We even got to sneak in some of Sutton's favorite game. Ready to play with us?
WHERE IS SUTTON???

THERE SHE IS!!!

We watched some parachuters draw in the sky.

Our energy was lacking, so we hiked back to the truck and sat in the back to watch the jets.

Poor baby fell asleep. But it was short lived. The plane was too loud on that end of the air strip, so we packed up and headed home.

Even after getting home, we got to see the Blue Angels doing their demonstration. At one point they flew right over our house in formation. IT WAS AWESOME!

We ended the day with movie and popcorn and a small dinner. The girls were all asleep by 7pm. Yes!
