Walking With Dinosaurs: The Musk Ox Farm

A couple weeks ago, I got tired of sitting at home with the rain and gloomy weather. So I googled things to do with kids in Alaska. I found a few things that I already knew about, some I had tried and some I hadn't. I found a Musk Ox farm, I had never heard of it. I went to their website to take a look. I thought it would be awesome to take the girls. We went with some good friends of ours too. Take a look at their website to see what they are all about. It is a neat organization. They help the Musk Ox and the native Alaskans.

What is a Musk Ox? Well, it is a prehistoric animal. They roamed the earth with dinosaurs. How cool is that? I was pretty excited about it, more so than my kids. But then I figured out how to get them excited. I told them the Musk Ox were in the movie Ice Age. That got them excited...see I told you I knew what to do.

Before we went out on our tour, we toured the inside of the museum. Don't go thinking this place it huge, it is not, but it had a lot of information and some pretty cool things you can see in about 10 minutes.

They had some bones from the Oxes in a basket. The kids were cute, they thought they could build one like a puzzle.

This is the pasture. Yes, it was raining that day. But you just have to get over it and get out or you will GO CRAZY! It is still pretty. Too bad you can't see the mountains in the distance. The clouds were low that day.
You see the beat up truck? Well, it didn't always look like that. This is what happens when you leave a truck in a field over night with bull Musk Ox.

The kids were able to feed the baby Musk Ox. That was probably the best part for them. We did have hand sanitizer, and OOPS, we forgot to give it to them before they ate lunch. I figure if doctors let their children drink from dog bowls, what is a little Musk Ox slobber?

I wasn't able to get a bunch of really good pictures like I would have wanted, because I was carrying this cute thing and she kept kicking (enjoy the very, very rare picture of me).
