How Cambodia Changed My Life

Almost 11 years ago, I was blessed to be able to go on a medical mission trip to Cambodia. If you don't know where it is, don't feel bad, a lot of people asked me then if it was in Africa. It is not. It is in south east Asia, next to Vietnam and Thailand. It is one of the most beautiful places I have been to. For a long time after, I would talk about it with anyone and everyone. With everything that happened in my life, I could think of a story about something I saw, heard or experienced in Cambodia.

Our medical team had a doctor and nurse. The rest of us were there to help them out. We went to an orphanage to look at some of the children to see if they could be helped out. Long story short, help was refused. But I experienced something that day that will never leave my heart.

As I walked through the door of the orphanage, I saw a room full of children, and women who were helping to care for these young ones. I looked to the left and down at my feet was a little boy. His eyes pierced my heart. He had no hair, he had no diaper. All he had on was a red t-shirt. He could sit up, but not walk. He didn't crawl either. If I had to guess, I would say he was between 12-18 months. I sat down on the floor not too far from him. He scooted on his bottom over to me and sat in my lap. This boy touched my heart and if I could have adopted him that second, I would have. I was barely 18. My heart ached for that boy for a long time. I always said I would adopt from there one day, but now adoption is closed in Cambodia to Americans.

I tell you this, because there are many families out there that are adopting, and they need help. It is very expensive...traveling, all the legal work, and I am sure there is soooo much more than I can imagine.

My cousin has a blog, and on her blog she has listed some families that are all going through the adoption process. Some of them have been through it before and are adopting again, and some, this is their first time. You can read about them here.

She is a very crafty and talented lady. She is makes greeting cards. And this is a very busy time of year for those. She is donating half the proceeds to these families. And you can read more about that here.

Have fun reading these stories, you will be blessed.

Thanks for sharing Sarah!
That's AWESOME what your cuz is doing... remembering that we ALL can play a part, whether seemingly large or small to benefit the kingdom and things God is crazy about. :)
