My Children Do Chores

One of my guilty pleasures is 19 Kids and Counting.  It is also something I know my kids can watch and I don't have to worry about it...until the commercials come on.  But in the online community they seem to get a lot of flack for making their kids do chores.

When did making kids do work around the house become taboo?

I did chores.  A lot of them.  I am glad I did chores.  I became an adult who knew how to cook, wash dishes, take out the trash, and clean, fold and iron laundry.  It was my training to become the perfect housewife ;)  Kidding.
But I am perfect...right, babe??

My brothers had their fair share of them too.  We came home every Friday from school, and we had to complete our chore list before we could do anything else.  If we did it wrong, we had to do it again.

I remember telling my mom she had kids just so she wouldn't have to clean the house.  Good idea, right?

My oldest 2 are at the perfect age to do chores.  And to tell you the truth, training them wasn't very easy. Some times, it is easier to do it myself.  And sometimes I do.  But when I don't take the time to teach them, I am not doing them any good.  Doing things around the house, helping when help is needed and daily chores will benefit them when they are older.

Plus, it helps me out too!

So, yes, my children do chores... age appropriate chores...it isn't organized, and they do not get paid for them.  It is all apart of being a family.  Eventually, we will give them an allowance (it is good to teach them to manage money).

Get this, I told Ella that I would pay her an allowance for all the hard work she does around the house and you know what she said?  She said she didn't want to be paid, because she loves helping me out because she loves me.  Melt my heart!

Ella dear, there it is...written down...I didn't not make this up...when you are a teenager and telling me how unfair life is and that you don't get enough allowance...here you go.  You love helping me out without pay because you love me.

And what is a little folding laundry without some Dirty Jobs?  We love Mike Rowe around here.  And I am thankful for the 'beeps'...and that my children haven't asked what the 'beeps' mean.

Then there is Sutton Grace...I have my hands full with her.  The whole family has their hands full with her.  She is something...but I love her so much!
