I was a little excited today that today was election day. Not because I was excited about voting myself (because I have a big issue with really only having two choices when I don't really agree with either on a lot of topics...I don't think either party is totally right...and I know that by me thinking that a lot of people get mad at me....sorry.)
Anyways....
I was excited about taking my kids to vote. I know that standing in line to vote with 4 kids in tow is not high on anyone's list of fun things to do, but I thought it would be a great way for my kids to really get a civics lesson.
We have been talking about the election for a couple days.
We even watched a Schoolhouse Rock video on the electoral collage.
So, it was time to load up and head to our poling station.
We got there.
We voted.
Ella, "That is it? That was boring! I am not really into this voting thing."
:)
Oh well...
Now that this election is over (it was "over" before the voting was over in Alaska...what is up with that? A flawed system...maybe? I have thought that since I first learned about how they count our votes as a little young one).
I think either way it went there would be many people upset. If you have facebook or twitter or whatever, you have seen it get ugly and that is sad. This is another reason I keep my political views to myself. Most people can't have a discussion and keep it civil. I am not willing to lose family or friends over the topic of politics.
Anyways....
This is an excerpt from an article that the girltalk blog posted on their blog today.
It is was what we as Christians should pray for on voting day. I just read it after the election.
And I don't know much about the author, but I agree with this quote, because I am not seeing much niceness these days and it makes me sad.
"...we must pray that Americans will be prepared to accept the results of the election with respect and kindness. This will be no time for rancor, condemnations, and conspiracy theories. Instead, we must pray that God will settle the hearts of the people. May Christians be ready to respond with prayer, respect for office, and a gentle spirit. Others will be watching."

On a side note, you will see next week some pictures from a new location....we are moving.
We will be moving into a new house on post. Our's is being renovated, so tomorrow movers start packing us up. We get the keys to our new place on Thursday. Not looking forward to the moving part at all. But I am glad I don't have to do it myself.
