Well, atleast the way they take care of their military members and family. Recently, Fort Richardson and Elmendorf Airforce Base combined. Now that they are one, the army has to bring everything up to airforce standards. Good news for us. The airforce has some of the nicest things. Before everything was seperate, but they have slowly made some changes. The PX/BX and Commissary are now used by both branches and boy is it nice. Everything is well maintained and clean. The hospital is now used by both branches, also. It was voted the best hospital in the airforce. I got a taste of it today.
I went to the women's center today to drop of some paper work so I could make an appointment. Back in Savannah, when I called to make an appointment, they couldn't get me in for another 6 weeks. This is about what I expected. I figured since it was the airforce, it would be a little better so maybe 1-2 weeks. I have an appointment on Thursday of this week! WOW! What a change!
I went to an FRG (Family Readiness Group) meeting tonight. For those that do not know it is a meeting mostly for the spouses just to keep us informed of what is going on like training, deployments (I hate that word), etc. The commander further explained the benefits of being under the airforce. That means our housing has to be up to their standards!! Awesome news for us. I am not sure that we will see it while we are here, but I am hoping to. Fingers crossed! We live in substandard housing and that was 50 years ago, imagine how it is now.
As much as I love the pampering the airforce provides, I am just glad we are part of the real military. Go Army! (that was for JT)
