My husband has been studying for his E6 board for some time now. For those that do not know, he is an E5 in the army, which is a Sergent. E6 will be a promotion for him to Staff Sergent. He has to stand up in front of his superiors in his dress uniform and recite the NCO's (Non Commissioned Officer) Creed and answer questions about everything related to the army. That is a lot of information!!
This past week, he has buckled down and it has been non-stop army around here. While he sat and shined his boots, I would ask him questions on the study guide. I learned more than I ever wanted to. One day, I felt like such the little army wife. I picked up his uniform from the cleaners, got something sewn on his beret, and quizzed him over army stuff, all but shine his boots for him. By the way, that is something I would never attempt. He was pretty much ready for everything, then the day before the board, they added new material for him to study. Not just 2 or 3 subjects, but 9! That is a lot to learn in less than 24 hours. My poor husband got an ulcer in his mouth from all this stress.
Finally, the day came. He was the last one to go in. He was so nervous, his fist were turning white. But in the end, he shined the brightest. He was told that he past and he would find out his score later. When I talked with him, he was beating himself up. He always does. He is the hardest on himself and can always find somewhere to improve himself. I think he is pretty great regardless. When he got his score, he found out that he got the highest score in his battalions history. That is pretty great!
So, now we are just waiting on his points for his job to drop so he will officially be promoted to E6. To explain...each job in the army has points attached to it for each pay grade. You get points by furthering your education in the army and the civilian world, knowing how to shoot guns (that is a very simple explanation of going to the range), earning rewards, going to the promotion board, etc. The points for his job are maxed out and it doesn't look like they will drop anytime soon. He is almost maxed out on all the point he can get. So, we just wait for now.
I am very proud of my husband. He is very good at what he does and there is not one person that can argue with me on that. He knows his job and he cares for is soldiers. He is, for sure, in the right job field.
