Please don't think that I have it all together or that I am supermom or that my little life is perfect...it is not. The good, blissful days and the "I am so glad that I homeschool my kids, and I wouldn't never do anything else" days aren't as many as I hoped in the beginning. AND in talking with other homeschooling moms...it isn't for them either...so I don't feel so abnormal.
So, why do I still do it?
Because it works for our family and I do not feel like sending them to school is the answer to my bad days.
Anyways...today, was one of those "I am so glad I homeschool, and I wouldn't do anything else" days.
We got a late start and usually that means a bad day.
We started with Math for Ella and she said something when we were finished with math that I would never ...NEVER, NEVER, NEVER...say.
She said, "Mommy, I love math! Can we do more!"
WHAT?! Who is this child and where did she come from?
She is obviously her dad's child...I hate math!
I was a little worried about teaching math, but Saxon gives me a script in my teacher book. We also use Saxon for phonics. I wish I had used Saxon from the beginning with Ella for phonics. She has struggled with reading so much, but Saxon is slow and repetitive (which is one reason a lot of people don't like it for phonics). But it is perfect for Ella. Combined with what she knew before to now...it is another world. She is probably more on the level she is supposed to be for reading. She is spelling words very well. I love it.
I will forever be a Saxon math and phonics user for my children.
Olivia kind of gets to do whatever she wants...for the most part. One thing she loves, is Starfall. It has been a favorite for the girls since before we started this whole homeschool journey.
As you can see...Sutton Grace loves it too.
(Olivia is wearing part of her costume for Halloween...she is going to be a cowgirl. She found a cow costume for JT and said, "Mommy, Daddy needs this so he can be a cow, and I can be a cowgirl!"....don't think JT will go for that.)
Ideally, I would like for Miss Campbell to be napping during our school time, but we all know by now that she does not sleep.
She usually rolls around on the floor or sits in my lap.
Notice the thumb in her mouth? She won't take a pacifier...she wants her thumb. There is nothing I can do about it. It is how she soothes herself if she isn't nursing. I am not thrilled about it, because you can take away a paci (well...we haven't tried yet with Sutton), but you can't take away a thumb.
We shall see if she keeps this up...
But still...it is so cute!
Usually, Sutton is playing with toys or one of her sisters while school is going on. Today, Olivia wanted to color, so we did. I knew Sutton would end up with marker on herself at some point. I caught her in the act. She prefers drawing on herself to anything else.
This photo was a happy accident for me...look at that look I am getting!
She is mimicking my look.
I realized that later on today when I got on to her and gave her "the look", and she gave it back!!
What a stinker!
While not a perfect day...there were no tears over school...no tantrums...and the kids did great too!
Everything that needed to be accomplished got accomplished.
I only have a couple of kids to teach...I can't imagine being a teacher in a school.
My hats go off to them!
